We bought a subscription to NetMop (a filter company SafeEyes recently bought) about two years ago. The filter worked really well, had an excellent feature of blocking offensive ads (swimsuit/bra ads, when that category was set to block). I rarely found a website that was blocked that shouldn't be. There were maybe one or two times that my blogs were blocked, but NetMop quickly resolved the issue. Enter SafeEyes. All of my wonderful filter experiences with NetMop seemed completely reversed with the replacement of my NetMop software with the SafeEyes software. In the 6 months that we have had this software, we have had multiple webpages blocked incorrectly, including my husband's Blackboard websites (among others) that he uses for school. Obviously, this caused major problems for us. Oh well, I thought - I can just disable the filter. Which seems to defeat the whole purpose of the filter. If I can just get rid of the filter when I want to view an objectionable website, the filter isn't really doing me any good now, is it? We likewise had to disable the filter several times to view streaming movies/TV shows on Netflix as the SafeEyes filter slowed our connection to a crawl. To add insult to injury, SafeEyes interferes with my blog editing software (Windows Live Writer) as I have to disable the filter in order to post pictures to my blog. So, with SafeEyes installed, my husband can't do his school work, I can't blog (to a private blog, nonetheless!), and our internet connection is slowed to a crawl. We never had any of these problems before. The biggest strength of NetMop that SafeEyes did away with was with NetMop, you had to call their 24/7 customer service line in order to disable/uninstall the filter. That means the filter doesn't just protect your kids, it protects you from yourself. The quality of this filter is not nearly good enough to offset all of the negatives. We will be switching to NetNanny (which is more similar to what NetMop was before SafeEyes bought it) since our subscription to SafeEyes has expired. I highly recommend that if you are thinking about using SafeEyes that you think again, and choose something else.
