I purchased and loaded Netnanny last night. Very easy. Set up two accounts, one for the responsible kid, one for the not so responsible kid. Then I tested. What I discovered is this: QUITTING OUT OF INTERNET EXPLORER DOES NOT LOG YOU OUT OF NETNANNY. What this means is that you can have one person with no restrictions on internet access using the computer. They can quit out of IE, and three minutes later, the person you want to restrict can get on and use the internet unrestricted. There's an auto log out timer you can set, but the MINIMUM time setting is 10 minutes, more than enough time for another person to get on, especially if you have kids using the computer back-to-back for homework. You can also right-click on the Netnanny icon to log off, but I don't want my kids, who are sometimes forgetful, or stressed out over homework, to have to remember to do this. Last, you can set up each user to have an individual Windows login. But this is another complication that we as a family have decided to avoid. I work in an office that uses several computer applications requiring log ins. ALL of them log you off when you quit the application. I contacted Netnanny about all of this, and their response was that if they auto-logged people off when they quit out of IE, they'd have a lot of complaints. I don't believe this and think the default should be to log people off. The whole purpose of Netnanny is to make using the internet safer to use, so people would be expecting an auto-logoff. They can still make it possible for people to choose the timed log-off.
